What it's used for

Platelet-rich fibrin promotes healing from dental procedures.

What to tell your dentist

Tell your dentist if you drink alcohol, take corticosteroids, take blood thinners, or have any chronic health conditions.

What is Platelet-Rich Fibrin?

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a by-product of your own blood that is rich in platelets and leukocytes (white blood cells) present in a complex fibrin matrix. This concentration of natural healing factors works to accelerate soft tissue and hard tissue healing.

At your appointment, a small sample of your blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate these healing components. Since it is made entirely from your own cells, it is completely natural and compatible with your body.

What are the benefits of PRF?

Using PRF helps your body heal faster and more comfortably. Benefits include:

  • Faster healing after wisdom teeth extraction and dental implant placement

  • Decreased chance of dry socket after tooth extraction

  • Increased early blood supply to the extraction site

  • Increased blood supply and stability to bone graft sites for implant placement

  • Less pain and swelling after dental surgery

  • Helps in gum regeneration

  • Prevents and treats infection

  • Speeds up wound healing

Common PRF Applications at Our Dental Clinic

We may recommend using PRF in several situations, including:

  • In an extraction site to promote faster, more comfortable healing.

  • With socket preservation after a tooth extraction to prepare the site for a future implant.

  • For guided bone regeneration to build up bone where an implant is needed.

  • With dental implants to decrease healing time and decrease the chance of implant failure.

Using PRF is just one of the ways our Dental Clinic provides complete, innovative care for our patients. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, give us a call.
