Nystatin is an antifungal medication used to treat conditions like oral thrush.
What to tell your dentist
Tell your dentist if you have an allergy to nystatin. Also, mention any other medications you are currently taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal remedies, as well as any existing medical conditions.
How to use
Take nystatin exactly as prescribed and finish the full course of treatment (even if you start feeling better). When using, swish and swallow after 30 seconds unless otherwise directed.
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Use your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
It is also recommended to dispose of your toothbrush or other contaminated oral hygiene devices used during the infection period to prevent re-infection.
Side effects
Nystatin can sometimes cause nausea or diarrhea.
A serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:
fever that doesn't go away
new or worsening lymph node swelling
rash
itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
severe dizziness
trouble breathing
Storage
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
