What it's used for
Clindamycin is commonly used to prevent or treat dental infections.
What to tell your dentist
Before taking clindamycin, tell your dentist if you have an allergy to clindamycin or other antibiotics, are taking any other antibiotics, or have taken any recently, or if you have colitis or other severe gastrointestinal diseases.
How to use
Take clindamycin exactly as prescribed and finish the full course of treatment (even if you start feeling better). It can be taken with or without food.
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Use your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Side effects
Clindamycin can sometimes cause nausea, or in some people severe diarrhea. If you are experiencing severe diarrhea, please visit the nearest hospital emergency department.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:
fever that doesn't go away
new or worsening lymph node swelling
rash
itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
severe dizziness
trouble breathing
Storage
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
